C3500 Fuel Pump Problem

Oct 24, 2005 1 Replies

I have a 2000 C3500 that has had 3 new fuel pumps in the last 2 years; and I'm having the same problem again - it won't start. If I get under it and beat on top of the fuel tank, it'll fire right up! I don't want to spend another $600+ on a fuel pump. Any ideas? Ken

Greetings,

This sounds suspisciously like a bad ground for the power to the fuel pump, or perhaps a bad or dirty wiring harness connection. You could also have a load of dirt or rust in your tank, but that's not a problem typically fixed by tapping on the pump. My first suggestion would be to run an independent ground wire to the frame from the pump and clean up the harness connector.

Cheers - Jonathan
