Hey folks I just inherited a 95 custom van with a 4.3 motor 125k miles. It doesnt want to idle at all. I can hold my foot on the gas and rev it up. It tends to sputter but revs smooth enough. I changed the distrbutor cap which was worn pretty good. The fuels flow without a problem. The exhaust system is pretty rotted away. Can the Cat Converter be collapsed internally and cause this problem? Looking for any tips on this one. Got the van for free but would not want to throw big dollars into it. thanks Bob

I do not know specificaly about the 95 van, but my 86 Blazer K5 acted like that. In a short time the catalytic converter had plugged up, glowed very very red but the truck would not run..
an emergency hack saw cut and the truck was running again back to tow for repairs.
