my latest fubar

I thought you all might appreciate this, especially Jon( I know this is nowhere near your mishap but still amusing).

After taking out and cleaning my vacuum modulator valve, I had been back in the house for a while, my dad dropped off his vacuum gauge so I could check my vacuum to see if it was enough to open the valve....

Excited to finally have the gauge, I ran out to the garage to test it, hooked it up to the intake manifold fired the truck up... checked at idle and gradually revved it up to see what I was getting for vacuum.....and all turned out ok on the vacuum end.

Notice I didn't mention in there putting the vacuum modulator valve and vacuum modulator back in? Well I didn't. As i'm in the engine compartment I look down and see about 3 qts of tranny fluid now spreading all over my garage floor.... Shut the engine off but by now pretty much everything on the garage floor has gotten it... including most of the stuff out of my wifes minivan since she loves putting crap all over my garage(maybe this'll teach her).

Anyway no real harm done... except I'm still cleaning tranny fluid off of things, but I did at least verify that there is fluid being pumped around :)

A couple weeks ago, I checked under the K5 after trying to tune it as best as I could without actually driving it. Being paranoid after the "last" time I tried to start it, I was checking any and everything because I just KNEW it was gonna spontaneously combust. (I still have a small fire extinguisher laying in the front floor board)

Anyway, I saw a little fluid around the tranny pan. Remember, I snapped off the head of the bolt to the throttle valve cable...the only thing holding it in was gravity. I'd backed the truck up and moved it over one space to get it into the corner of the parking lot. Apparently some pressure built up in the tranny while it was running (no...ye think Jon?)

Well I felt around and suddenly the TV cable popped loose. It started rapidly pouring out and suddenly I found myself resting comfortably in a nice warm puddle of dirty brown tranny fluid.

...and another T-shirt became a "work shirt".

On my 2000 Silverado, I changed the oil using mobil 1 and changed the filter while I was under there. I was distracted or something while removing the filter so I removed it, put it in the drainpan, screwed on the new filter and it just didn't 'feel' right. Confident I got it tight enough, 5.5 quarts in the crankcase, fire it up and check for leaks. By the time I got under the truck, 2-3 quarts of oil had already leaked out of the oil filter leaving a nice mess on the floor. Upon further inspection, I noticed the problem. The old filter gasket stuck to the block when I removed it. I lubed up the new filter gasket and screwed it right on top of the other gasket. I learned that 2 is not better than one in this case.

Luckily I always check for leaks and didn't peel out of the driveway.
