I have a '99 Xsara 1.6 VTR, has been fairly reliable over the years, it seems to have developed some sort of problem when cold, it starts fine, idles fine, as soon as I touch the accelerator there is a momentary drop in power at which point it will either stall or get close to it, if it does survive it sort of revs itself for a period of a few seconds before settling down, once it's moving and warmed up (~5 mins) it doesn't seem to have much of a problem. This maybe completely unrelated but it also appears to run out of fuel when the guage reports slightly less than quarter of a tank left, I don't believe this is a fault of the guage.
Anyone else had anything like this before? could it be a partial fuel blockage somewhere, perhaps the fuel filter?
