Want to post a few pics of old british cars seen in a local scrappy. Is there a binaries part of this group - or is it ok to post here?

This is a non-binary group, so binaries won't propagate around between properly-configured servers.
Your best bet would be to either use any free webspace you may get from your ISP or post them on a site such as flickr, then post a link here.
You can't have attachments to text newsgroups. You can always post them to the alt.binaries.pictures.autos or cars groups and announce them here. Norm
