missing/stumbling

my 96 camaro with a 3.8 just started to miss intermittenly. Started with a check engine code for cylinder number 3 misfire. Then got another, random multiple cylinder misfires.



The coil packs checked okay. I am running a tank of gas through it with injector cleaner and dry gas added to see if perhaps the injectors are dirty or theirs water in the gas. After 3/4 tank, no change evident.



What puzzles me is that the problem sometimes clears up. I can leave the house and it runs as smooth as silk. Then it will start sputtering when I apply the gas. But then if I continue to accelerate it eventually smooth out. Had it up to 110 with no apparent missing.



This would seem to rule out plugs, wires, fuel filter.



Anyone have a similar problem that they found a cure for?

Thanks Andy, I will put that on my troubleshooting list. That tip had come up on a similar problem I had with a 3.8 2000 impala. I was getting a cylinder 1 misfire that would come and go. The car would stumble when first starting it up and for the first mile or so. But it wasn't near as bad as the camaro. The camaro spits and sputters, while the impala didn't. Plus the impala will only do that maybe once in a blue moon whereas the camaro is every time you take it out.

Have you checked alldata.com for any relevant bulletins pertaining to the vehicle/problem in question? First place to start.
