1995 XLT transmission question

I would appreciate any input on the following occurrence. Twice this past week, when putting the transmission into reverse first thing in the morning, when I stepped on the gas pedal, the truck did not move. (The second time it happened, I did press a little bit harder, and heard some grinding noises.) After putting the transmission into drive and inching forward, everything worked normally when put into reverse. Later on those days, there was no further problem upon engaging reverse. I have had no problems with the forward gears. Is this something that I should worry about? Thanks.

In a word.... yes. In view of the grinding noises, I imagine that there will be a major overhaul coming in your transmissions future. This would be a good time to start looking for a good shop....... beware, there are many charlatans to be found. Given the year and the possible mileage accrued, you will be further ahead to avoid a 'patch' repair.

The Ford FQRs in our area have served us very well..... if you are in Edmonton, Alberta or area, LoCost Automatic is a good bet - the odd problem but he stands behind his work.

Failing that,

Thanks. Maybe it's also time to start looking at a new Explorer, although my current one has been very loyal and I've grown attached to it. And I'm nowhere near Alberta.
