Home Recording Rights Coalition. You can make a copy of an entire CD or even selections from the CD for your own personal use as long as you do not give the copy or the original away or sell either.

You can also make CD Audio format compilations from other formats, e.g. MP3, for which you own the digital rights and the rights holder or that particular selection does not prohibit this. Again you can't give away or sell.

Then maybe the theif will get busted for having copies without the originals!!!!

Not if you bought the original.
