My Jeep doesn't have locks. Someone went in, broke my console lock, and stole all my cds. The console will be about $80 to fix, the cd's are worth $400 and the cd case was $15. It was at a Bowling Alley in Troy NY, while I was shooting darts there.

Instead of spending the $80 on the console, put that money towards a Tuffy security console instead. There have been plenty of stories posted here by people who returned to their Jeep and found evidence of an unsuccessful attempt to break into one of those. Never heard of a successful attempt yet.

You make a good argument for the use of CD burners to copy CD's. You wouldn't be out more than 5 bucks worth of blank discs if they were all copies.
Regarding the Tuffy console, and any other lock, for that matter, if a dirtbag wants your stuff, he is going to get it. The better you lock it up, the more damage he is gonna do to get to it, or maybe he will just take the whole Jeep and worry about it later. I say leave it unlocked, and don't keep anything of value in there.

Get yourself a Tuffy brand console and make copies of your music for the road. I keep about 100-200 CDs in the ZJ. Every one of them on CDRs so if someone does steal them I'm only out some time.
On the bright side at least they didn't cut your windows.

About 2 months after I got my Jeep, someone crawled through the back and stole some stuff out of my Jeep. They took a pair of roller blades and the elbow pads that went with them and they jerked open the center console and stole my cd collection as well along with a hairbrush (explain that one). The console wasn't locked. All they had to do was push the button, but nooooo they had to rip it open. hehe
Now, I do the same as many others, I burn copies of my cd's and keep the copies in the Jeep.

Now that's just plain crazy. I only keep Kenny G, John Tesh, and the Best of Cher in my Jeep.

If you make lots of copies of CD's for your friends, now that is stealing (more specifically, copyright infringement).
Nice try Jerry, but they broke my unlocked center console to get in and steal a few odd trinkets that were of no value to anyone. Granted, they got caught, tapped on the wrist, told not to do it again and were right back at it.. This is after they admitted to breaking into 85 vehicles in 3 days. Welcome to TN...
