how to undue the uel-filter sensor

I have to undue the fuel-filter sensor to clear water from there. I have been advised to be GENTLE with it, but how do I get it off? Do I unscrew it, or wedge it out? Any ideas? Advice is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Uli

Remove the electrical plug and then GENTLY **** undo ***** the sensor until fluid flows down the drain pipe. It will start to flow pure diesel after a while (a second or two at most), at which point GENTLY do the sensor back up again until reasonably tight (don't overtighten as you will strip the **** delicate thread**** on the sensor).

Uli,

I haven't done this but to me the words "undo" and "delicate thread" in the original post indicate it is screwed on.

delicate thread**** on the sensor).<

If it has threads it must be screwed in. Turn counterclockwise to remove.

On my 1984 110 (which has the fuel filter on the bulkhead in the engine bay) the water drain screw is a regular screw thread, though plastic screwing into metal, when I got the LR a year ago it required the use of plyers to persuade it off but it's now hand-tight.

Hi Uli, sorry if I wasn't clear. Unscrew it anticlockwise to undo it, you don't need to remove competely it to clear the water out of the filter.

Thank you all, guys, I will unscrew it in the morning. Feel like I have to disarm a bomb ;-)

Made me laugh, that. I know how you feel. Dire warnings about not breaking something, then it turns out you either have to hit it with a hammer or get a pair of Mole grips out (*NOT* that I'm suggesting you need to use either of these implements!")...

Hi,

I'll vouch for that, it's very fragile. I got mine off easily when I changed the fuel filter, just removed the lead and unscrewed it. However when I replaced it I was a bit over zealous and felt a snap. The threaded section, made from plastic had parted from the main sensor. I couldn't get it back off, because as I turned the sensor the now separate thread didn't turn. Fortunately it didn't leak diesel, so its still on the vehicle, but LR want £26 for a new one so be careful!
