SU carb onto 2.25

Just wondering if anyone's succeeded in fitting an SU to a 2.25. I'd appreciate some ideas on where to get a 90 degree union from to convert from downdraft. What needle/jets would be good? I've got a metro carb sitting in the shed which should do, can't remember what model, it much bigger than an HS4.

Cheers Andy

There was a company out there somewhere making replacement manifolds for a 2.25 to take a SU carb. As for which carb, the critical thing is not the carb but the needle/jet and spring that you fit.

Have a look round at the LR show at billing, somebody must have them.

is the company youare after.

SU carb kit is nearly £500 though and they do stage 2 heads and performance camshafts as well

My mate has the automotive SU maniford and carb on his landy. Seems a lot of money for what looks like basically just a modified standard manifold. I Can take you a pic of how it sits if you fancy making your own?

I can supply you with a brand new, purpose made manifold for not much over £100. A friend's father is the pattern makes / designer of them. I will check if you want but I am fairly certain you need an HIF6 carb - I can also tell you what spring and jet / needle you need ( about £25 ) to make it run right.....

If you could, I'd be gratefull. I have spare SU carbs sitting around doing nothing.

Is it also possible to find out which needle and spring is fitted (ie color codes) for our reference?

TIA

David, Is this offer open to anyone? I did email you awhile back about inlet and outlet "merformance" manifolds, but never got a response :-(

Thanks, Jon

p.s. I've sent you a private message as well....

Yes the offer is open to anyone - don't recall the last email but then I have had some fairly major PC problems. I gave up in the end and bought a new pooter but i lost everything off the old one...

I will do as soon as i get my camera back. Should be over the next few days. Send me emails and remind me if i dont get it done! :)

How would i check that?. I dont think he'd be very grateful if i took it apart. Is it likely to be labelled externally?

Er, no. Just thought he might know, that's all.

Don't worry about it

From what he has said today, it looks like the carb will have to come apart at some point in the near future since its getting blocked or stuck somewhere and it wont run properly. If he does strip it to clean it up, i'll have a look
