Annual Repair cost of RX 300

I have just bought a 99 RX 300. I like to save monthly for the repairs including brakes, tires, timing belt, tuneups, etc.

Does anyone have a guess-to-mate as to how much per year the RX 300 will costs.

I try to do some of the labour myself so how much is parts and how much is labour.

Thanks for your thoughts

, click on used cars, then Lexus, and find youryear and model. When the car comes up, on the left hand side will be a bunchof links, one of which is "True Cost to Own". That should give you an idea.(Figures will be in US $, but the conversion to Canadian should be fairlystraightforward.)

It doesn't give a breakdown between parts and labor, though... :(

See if your local Toyota dealership works on the RX300. Once you're out of warranty, that's the best way to keep costs down on a Lexus. Every time I pick up my ES300 at the Lexus dealer following an oil change, I run into someone at the cashier window who is stuck with a service bill for anywhere from $700 to $2000. Was funny, one lady almost fell over she was so shocked. They stuck me for a $400 bill on my 15k oil change, without ever telling me beforehand that they were going to give me the super duper deluxe complete 15k service. I'm waiting for my invoice, figuring it might be $75-100 for the 15k service, and out pops a bill for over $400!! Unbelievable! Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...I won't be fooled twice.

I have an RX300 that I get serviced by my Lexus dealer. A colleague of mine bought a used RX 300 and tried to have it serviced at the local Toyota dealership. They told her that they could do the routine service BUT the Lexus oil filter is different than the Toyota one and they insisted that they use the Lexus one. So she purchased the Lexus filter at the Lexus dealer and had the Toyota dealer perform the routine service. I'm not sure what the difference is in the filter, but considering the "sludge" discussion here, you might want to check.

The filters are the same, just have different looks to fool American Lexus owners. Both the Toyota Harrier (the RX here) and Toyota Kluger (Highlander here) use the exact same filter in Japan.

Also there's no need to use Lexus filter to keep the warranty unless Lexus provides the filter free of charge.

That arguement is very true. However, even though your response is correct based on a fact of law, the issues that a customer may face with Lexus for not using the right oil filter may suggest spending the few $$ for the right oil filter. To find the right oil filter, you need to get the exact part number and see where the filter was made since the same part number can show a filter that is built in the USA or Japan.

My experience with Insurance Companies or places that provide warranty or guarantees, is that they love to take your money with 2 hands, but when the time comes to fess up and give you money, it will be a cold day in hell before they get back to you promptly and don't give you extra hassles.

From our experience with an 01 RX 300 -- $140.00 for minor service at 5 and

10k miles. $475.00 at 15k and about the same at 30k. We had to overhaul the rear brakes (new pads, resurface, change fluid and so forth at 30k because the brakes were worn out. Cost $250.00. Front brakes were OK and were likely to last 10 k more. We were also told that the timing belt and water pump change which is recommended (by the dealer) at 75k was close to $2,000.00. Hard to believe. If you can get the local Toyota dealer to so the service (and keep the warranty), it will be cheaper by far. Don't lose or break one of the keys -- cost $211.00 (not including programming) to replace. The car wash is free, however. Overall, a decent car, reliable and so forth. Lousy grip (2 WD ) in the wet, probably the OEM Goodyears.
