So.... at what odometer reading did your engine fail
The car had 19K miles when it developed a problem. I never really got a full explanation, but it has to do with the way the engine breathes and the temperature it runs at. The engine apparently puts a very heavy demand on the oil and it breaks down prematurely. The dealer changed the valves covers, dropped the oil pan and cleaned it, flushed the engine, several times, and that seemed to correct the problem. It was a $2000 repair paid by Toyota. The reason I took the car in for repair as because it started burning oil and needing frequent oil replacement. Like I said synthetic oil is not supposed to break down that easily. This engine must have some really bad tolerances if it sledges just because you don't change the oil a 3000 mile intervals. The car ran fine after the fix, apparently there was no engine damage I caught it early. I of course changed my oil at 3000 miles then which I think is excessive for any car.
BTW, I traded it in for a 03GS300 and the car has not had the problem yet at
15K miles.
