Crikey. Is that the 1.3 badly in need of a tune?
May go for a pair of those for the rears cos I had all hell on stopping wheelspin off the line at Santa Pod.

The Essex is the same BHP as my Pinto but heavier. The Cologne is only
30 BHP more, until I add some mods, and weighs more.At Classic Ford Show, there wasn't a single V6 that could keep up with the tuned Pintos.
Obviously a tuned engine CAN produce more power than a larger standard engine. However a V6 3 litre is 'as standard' a lot faster than a 2 litre pinto (std) (IIRC 130bhp as opposed to 90) I didn't find that the standard
2.8 was noticeably different to the 3 litre, BUT it did have a LSD as std, which was a big improvement in driveability since the tail could come out with much more control and power getting to the road. Plus of course the bigger engine is nicer in available grunt at lower engine speeds.Mrcheerful
I remember some tuning firm in the 80's testing 6or8 2.8 engines on their dyno. Not one came close to the advertised 130bhp, the closest one got was almost
120.....POS :)
and I wonder how close a 2 litre pinto got to 90? even if v6s were only 120 or a little bit under, the extra 20 or more horses over a pinto is a huge difference in performance terms with only a little extra weight. I did several V6 into Cortina and Transit swaps in the late 70's/80's and there was always a very enjoyable kick compared to the pintos and V4s they replaced, all were much faster afterwards, brakes were a problem, but, you know.........
Brakes were a problem on V4 Transits!
A friend and I drove the service barge for a national rally team. It was a V6 Tranny. Driving between service areas, the wealthy teams using Range Rovers used to get in our way! If only they had realised that often, stopping was not an available option!
We did a front disc conversion using the hubs from a later Transit eventually, which made things just a tad safer...
