Citric acid was my first thought, but its MP is about 160 C iirc. Sulphamic acid is also the active ingredient of Fernox descaler and I already have a big tub of that, as might others in this NG.

Might be worth a try. ;-)
It is good stuff ... and the cost may need to be compared with the cost and effort of alternatives, like setting up for some form of media blasting (even wet). There is also less mess (especially when blasting outside) and less risk (dust particles / respirators etc).
Depending on the level of corrosion, it also seems to last a long time and also seems to keep pretty well.
