airbag suspension on miata?

has it been done on a miata? I dont know much about air bag suspension but i like the ideas they do on discovery's Monster Garage with their projects.

advantages on mitata could be and im not sure:

1) ride height adjust (for winter days?) 2) security: air bag could be lowered to the gnd preventing wheel being stolen? 3) low ride height are good look.

what are the disadvantages? 1) no one has tried one? drives bad? thx tony

Altering the ride height on a Miata causes major changes in wheel alignment. To maintain safe handling, the car would need a new alignment each time you made a height adjustment.

Air suspensions are not as reliable as steel springs. I used air shocks on a motorcycle many years ago, and had to push the bike back to the trailer when a small piece of trapped gravel wore a hole in the rubber bladder. On the road, suspension failure could cause a serious wreck.

Air shocks are well established as *auxiliary* springs for carrying heavy loads in trucks. They don't replace the original springs.

Very exaggerated. The Miata handles safely in Florida, (while, of course, obeying the speed limits) regardless of alignment. You could take a curve with a 45 mph speed limit with enough toe out that the wheel axis is pointing straight backward, and there will not be any problem.

Let's skip the hyperbole, OK? Leon
