Speedometer illumination in late 1998 500SL

Hi

The speedometer illumination needs a rap on the top of the dashboard to make it come on. I want to check/replace the bulb.

Does the the instrument pod come out like on a W126. i.e ease a thin piece of wire with a hook shape on the end past the edge of the pod and dash surround and carefully pull the pod towards you?
