Tire (tyre) life

I just took my car in for its 25K mile (@26.6) service interval. The dealer told me I should start thinking about new tires. 3mm left on the tread. These are 17" Goodyear runflats.

I'm used to getting 40K plus from tires. Is it the car, the fact that they are runflats, Goodyear or what. Most of the driving has been fairly gentle country road plus freeway. Most tires are warranteed to at least 40K. Are these? Any recommendations about a replacement brand?

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

I have seen tires ruined at 6K by 'Boy Racers' Tires on the front axle usually require changed at 25-30K rears 30-35K

Tyre Manufacturer is up to you - Goodyear are usually OK as are Pirelli and Michelin but there are many less known brands trying for our money, My personal fav at the min for my own cars ( ford and vw ) are 'STAR PERFORMER' Totally new and following michelin tread patterns a treat!!! ( unofficially I suspect).

I can say I did a driving course with Mini through the cones - the test was to guess which tyre was deflated the result was about 1 in 100 guessed it correct wit a good percentage saying nothing was wrong... I knew something was not right but guessed the wrong tyre.. left rear it was...

and JUST TO ADD TO THE TREAT we were beating the sales staff driving a BMW Z3 with no puncture through a similar set of cones - we waited untill they set off then we started the course and usually won easily.

We were spotted and 'Yellow carded' by BMW Staff to remind us to behave ( humph)

I'm off to rockingham again soon to have another go - If Mini make an appearance I'll let you's know... Last time I was there the 'public' day was full of kids driving Mini Auto through the grandstand area, one of whom nearly collecting me as we ogled the new BMW M5.

ps the X3 was rebuilt and nobody knew it was me;-)

20k for me and the fronts were to the point of being dangerous. I have since replaced them with a full set of Yokohama ES100's and I'm lovin' life again.

I got over 37K miles with the OEM Tyres on my Cooper S, but have rotated them regularly. If there is one single thing I tell new Mini owners...you may not have to change the oil that often, but you will be best served by rotating the tyres as often as 5000 miles. 10,000 is too long. After about

7500 they start to sound like a bad axle, or an unmaintained truck.

My Goodyear Runflat tyres were gone by 25000 Kilos, which is nothing! Was not happy as my driving has not bee too hard either. I have been told that these tyers use a "soft compound". Soft is right! Alan Day CAPE TOWN
