4 vs 8 cylinders, fox body...

My father-in-law has a 1991 SSP (Interceptor) Mustang that's got some serious rust problems but is otherwise in great shape.

To make things simple, quicker and cheaper, we're hoping to just buy a clean 4 cylinder mustang and use its chassis/body instead of fixing up the old one. We don't want to go this route if we have to make

*serious* alterations to the 4 banger's frame/etc to make it all work.

I don't see why there'd be any difference between the 4 and 8 cylinder versions at this level... but we need to be sure. Can any one help us out?

Thanks,

The SSP is a fairly rare option. You may reconsider junking it because their value is a little higher than a standard coupe. If you do decide to junk it, save the SSP options to transfer or sell outright. The 160MPH speedometer and external oil cooler bring good $ on Ebay.

Just what I'd hoped to hear... thanks!

At this point, the only thing to be junked will be the chassis and body... everything else will be brought over into the "new" car.

However, I hadn't realized the parts you mentioned were such hot commodities. Thanks for the tip.

I believe the SSP cars have some additional chassis bracing so give the car the once over before you junk the chassis to make sure you get any unique pieces off it. One annoying difference from the 4 banger to the V8 cars is the size and routing of the fuel lines so be prepared to do some plumbing as they are on opposite sides of the car. BTW SSP V8 mid size LTD's in '85/'86 had oil coolers too if any one is looking for another source. LTD LX's didn't have them though. StuK

If I remember correctly, there are some suspension things that will probably need to be changed over as well.

I think there are a few *little* things like heavy-duty seat supports.
