First IMPORT PONY CAR is a HYUNDAI?!?

I knew it was only a matter of time. Some foreign company was going to enter the pony car market. But what I never suspected was that the company would be Hyundai. I figured it would be Toyota since they've been trying for years to steal the rights to Chevy's old ad campaign anthem and then alter the lyrics to say hot dogs, apple pie & Toyota. Plus, Toyota has had those hearty Tundra pickup V8s available for more than a few years -- pop one of those in a rear drive chassis, especially one from the newest Tundra, and bang you've got a serious hot rod. But I shouldn't be shocked. Hyundai has a real swagger/ attitude these days because they've begun to beat the Japanese at their own game by offering excellent products at a lower price.

Anyways, here are the details.

I think this will be the beginning of the end for many front wheel drive platforms. This car will wreak havoc in the import world and will leave Toyota, Nissan etc. scrambling to catch up if they don't do preemptive strikes before, or around, the time this car comes to market. I don't see it doing much to the Mustang, IMO. I also wonder what the pricing will be. If they price it like a typical Hyundai it will fly out of the showrooms.

Now if they model this car after the 240SX AND slap a V-8 in it I just might have to consider one.

My guess is Hyundai is forgoing four wheel drive to save on cost. They like mocking the competition's vehicles and selling at a much lower price point. IMO, a low cost, rear wheel drive import is a guaranteed home run.

Looks more like a Supra or Datsun Z Car competitor to me.

Looks like another ugly jellybean import. So it could sell well since the public seems to like ugly.

It's REAR WHEEL DRIVE and, IMO, looks don't have to be top notch. Also, I have seen the new Tiburons and they don't look half bad. They are sports a fast back look. If this car looks as good as it does then it will be fine.
