Hello from a new member

I have under 3000 miles on my 40th Anniversary Mustang GT (in 40th Anniversary Crimson). Since I have the 6 year Ford Care Plan / extended warranty, I am limited as to what enhancements I can make. Does anybody else have experience with "Ford Approved" upgrades (assuming the dealership does all the work)?

This is my first Mustang and I LOVE this car!!

Peace,

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the group!

You've just hit upon one of the most asked questions... mods and warranty. Technically (and lawfully) a dealer can't refuse warranty service unless a specific aftermarket modification caused the problem. However, the reality is that some service departments are reasonable and some service departments aren't. Your best bet is to consult with your local service dept. manager before you do any mods in order to find out how they stand with it.

In my case my T-45 tranny was replaced under warranty at about 36K miles. At the time I had a gear change to 3.73 and a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. The trans specialist that did the work commented on how much he loved the shifter and wished Ford would use something like that from the factory.

Post up a little more information about your car, driving style, improvements you'd like to make, etc. and perhaps we can make some good suggestions.

Good Luck!

Car and driving habits: My car is a stock 2004 GT, 4.6 SOHC. It's all dressed up in 40th anniversary garb including the crimson paint, gold racing stripes, and Bullit rims. I'll try to throw some pictures up this weekend. I'm a mild mannered driver for the most part. Most of my driving is to and from work on the freeway (with occasional trips into the Arizona mountains). I don't intend to drag race (I'd be too worried about breaking something on the car). For me, it's mostly about the sound and driving experience. My favorite RPM range to drive in is the 2500 - 3500 range. I can feel the car start to pull and I like the feel of the shifts in that range. It's got the Mach 460 sound system which I almost never turn on because it interferes with the sound of the engine (and me being an amateur musician and all, go figure).

Enhancements: I would like to lower the car 1 1/2" or so. Living in Arizona, anything to keep the incoming air cooler is a plus. The mods I'd like are:

Short term: cold air intake (as long as it's relatively quiet) bolt on intake parts I see advertised (plenum, etc)? lower the car and tighten up the suspension better flowing exhaust header, pipes, and mufflers cool looking carbon fiber shift knob

Longer term: put a mild street cam in (just enough to give a little romp to the idle and add a few extra HP in the low to mid RPM range) upgrade the intake system supercharger

If money REALLY weren't an object, then I'd probably drop a Cobra motor in it :)
