FAST IDLE Adjustment. 3,000 RPM's eeekk!

My GF's 1998 Saturn SW1 needs the fast idle adjusted, when cold, it revs up to as high as 3,000 RPM'S Way too high. After about 30-45 seconds of warm up, It slows down to a normal 800 RPM or so. Are there any specific steps I need to know? if not, where would I find the adjustment screw? I want to make sure I do this by the book. It has 50,000 Miles and the only maintenance I know of is the serpentine belt change. So IM assuming the plugs and other tune-up items haven't been changed

Ill be doing a tune up on it in the next few weeks. Plugs & Wire set Rotor (assuming it's NOT distributor-less) Gas filter Air Filter Radiator Flush Transmission/Transaxle flush (Or is this FWD tranny sealed? requiring no maintenance?) Any other maint. tips?

sorry, this car is new to me... lol :) Any help is greatly appreciated!!

By personal experience, have a simple answer to your question. CHECK THE BATTERY...My 200 Saturn SL was doing the exact same thing for the last 2 months. I the last 2 weeks, I was getting a "service engine soon light, and just recently my battery completely died. I replaced th battery, and the problems went away immediately. Rational...Saturn have a finicky electrical system. My family has had 6 Saturns, an every time the battery dies, it always seems to go without warning but I have discovered that it is because the cars have been designe to compensate for batteries that are dying. And, I believe that th

3000 rpm idle is part of that compensation (works the alternato extra to cover the low power). My 2001 Saturn was at 138,000 mile and 8 years when this original battery finally died. In summary extremely high idle?...Check the battery...Simple $65 fix
