So you call Diesel petrol and you call petrol gas? Any other basic concepts you get so screwed up?

How about justice, as in the kind of "putting people in prison for years until you can think of something to charge them with" type of justice?

YOU'RE the ones who get it all screwed up. Petroleum is the base from which gas is derived.

Imagine calling what you put in the car "petrol". F***ed up, indeed.

Lifts, fags, apples and pears...man, how f***ed up can you be.

What do they call gas?

We have unique names for each petroleum distillate. In some cased the names we use are different from the names you use. Only a buffoon would find this strange given our planet's numerous languages and dialects.

The yanks refer to Petrol as gasoline

They walk about with donkeys attached so they don't actually need to walk was my understanding. Their donkeys must come free with a fast food supersize option :-p

Seriously though some USA terms are more meaningful than ours/English , and I use what has clearest meaning.

Gas and ass ain't two of them as is their incorrect non-descriptive overuse of "the"

Doesn't petrol go to a more a vapour stage? gasoline seems a bit suspect too.

On "the" ... and it's creeping into .AU too:

"Go visit the library ..." Huh? which library? "Go visit a library ..." or "go visit the {insert name of} library"

That would actually be crude oil, I don't see the markets talking about the price for barrels of "petroleum".

If you call petrol (which is a liquid) gas what do you call anything that really is a gas? Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is popular in Australia and in many other parts of the world as a vehicle fuel, a term like LPG must confuse the hell out of you if you call a liquid gas:-) BTW its a liquid under pressure when stored in a tank but is a gas when released into the atmosphere so hence the name.

Gas is short for gasoline, and we understand context of conversation--so it's never an issue.

Diesel Electric trains have been around for yonks. The BIG diesel engines drives BIG generators that supply electricity to the BIG electric motors on the BIG wheels of the BIG trains.
