Are you planning to sell it? If not, what difference does it make? For example, I have a sizable portfolio of municipal bonds. Their market value changes because of the market factors. However, I bought them with a known income and yields. I don't care how much they are worth on paper; I care that I get paid my interest and that the issuer does not default (I know munis). I own a 2012 Prius and a 2007 Camry Hybrid. I don't plan to sell either until I need to; so I don't care what the values are unless I plan to trade one in or sell it. However, we know that vehicles depreciate in value over time and that they are an expense, not an investment. So, I look to spread the expense out over the longest time I can comfortably.
