Identifying Bad Engine Mounts

Jun 22, 2006 1 Replies

What's the best way to test engine mounts on a 900 SE? If I apply the parking brake, put it in first and let the clutch out the front of the engine either raises about an inch, or the rear of the engine lowers an inch. Just wondering if the mounts had to let go completely before they could be identified as bad. Thanks, Ron

You can often see cracks in them. General opinion is that the engine should not move more than 1/2" under torque. Start with the driver's side tranny mount. You will need to remove or loosen the inner fender cover to get a good look at it without having the car on a lift.
