I was told U.S.$400 for an O2 sensor for the same car. That seems absolutely ridiculous to me, and I never remember paying more than $100 for the same part for any other car. Why is it that I feel I am being ripped off on any Saab repairs?

I believe the NG900 uses two O2 sensors - a front and a rear (I drive a c900).

Not sure how the 'failure' was confirmed? but O2 sensors can be somewhat tested w/a DMM, and definitvely w/an oscilloscope in closed loop (voltage output, switching speed). All associated wiring should also be checked.

If DIY inclined, there should be (not 100% sure) a 4-wire Bosch replacement ("Premium" or sometimes marked "Universal") available for _much_ less, either at a local chain store or on-line. I don't have the Bosch PN (the c900 3-wire has at least 3 or 4 PNs that'll work): that'll have to be researched for your NG. The only real difference is that they just have pig-tail leads, i.e., the OE harness must be spliced in (suggest solder and heatshrink [some also stagger])

Old sensors can sometimes be seized on - making removal difficult.
