Thought I fixed it

When we first got the Hawk it had a problem, the Headlight switch could not power both headlights and dash lights at the same time. A few years ago I purchased a new headlight switch and it accept both headlight and dash lights. Years ago, you could tell the headlight switch could not handle the power as the switch itself got hot.

The nw switch never got hot. Last night around 11:30 pm we were driving thru some VERY small towns in Mass. and my headlights kept goin off and back on. I turned off the dash lights, and it was fine for the last half of the 30 mile trip. Is there any way to power up the dash lights and the head lights in such a way that the power to the dash lights, does not come from the head light switch?

Time has taken a toll on the connectors and wiring. I would first disconnect and reconnect all the terminals. Spray everything liberally with WD-40 as well making sure that it reaches the switch internals. I had to do this with the PowerHawk connectors several years ago and never had any trouble since.

It seems like every problem with the lights I've ever had through the years has always traced back to the foot operated dimmer switch.

A few years back I pinched the wire that feeds the trunk light in the trunk lid hinge. That resulted in my driving with the lights going on and off as the circuit breaker blew and then reset itself. At least I found out it worked. Strange part was when I stopped and opened the trunk to get a flashlight out, of course it all cured itself. Took me a couple of days to find the culprit. MikeW

I've pinched that wire too in my '61 Hawk. That's why it's now unplugged and shoved up inside the trunk lid.
