1997 Impreza AC Compressor

How can I tell if mine is going out? I had my oil changed yesterday and the guy said when he started my car he said he heard a noise that sounded like the compressor was going out. If I need one, what would the cost be? Do I have to get a new one, or can a rebuilt one be found? Also, can I expect any major part replacement(s) at 100k? Thanks

They are pricey. Rebuilt a diesel-kiki for my 91 is over $500. Having it changed was also going to involve a change in refigerant (and they wanted several hundred for that as well). So, I'm using "Okie AC" (roll the windows down)

I disconnected it electrically (un plugged it) to keep the clutch from engaging. It lets me use the heater OK.

When it goes out you will know! Unplug the clutch and you shouldn't have it interfer with the operatioj of the car until you gatehr in the $

AFAIK there's no real advantage to replac> How can I tell if mine is going out? I had my oil changed yesterday
