Mirror temp probe

Hey all, posted this on USMB byut get only views, no replies...I'll try here.

Can anyone tell me where the outside temperature probe is for the autodimming mirror on the '00 OB ltd? I have this model but the temp reads OC, or error Open Circuit. I originally thought it was reading 0 degrees Celsius since when I looked at the car it was 32 degrees F outside (equals 0 C for you metric types)

I'm thinking that is not an OEM mirror. The one offered by Subaru does not have the outside temp, it's compass only. Actually I don't know if it was even offered in '00. So unless you know for a fact that it came from Subaru your mirror is presumably aftermarket. The mirror was probably installed without the temp probe or it may have failed. If you want to find out for sure you can look for the wires coming from the mirror and follow the one for the probe if it exists. The autodim mirror sold by Subaru is made by Donnelly so you may have the aftermarket version that has temp readout. If it turns out the probe is missing you can probably contact Donnelly and order one.

Thanks Mulder. After further investigation, and a look in the glove box, the mirror is Gentex who, according to them, supplies the mirrors in the '05 subes and I assume the '06s. My thinking is that this was replaced at the dealer for whatever reason. So I'll go through their distributor, Mito, for the info and instructions.

Thanks again, John

Ok, yes I think they may have changed to Gentex on the later models. Gentex and Donnelly are the two OEM suppliers of most autodim mirrors and they supply the aftermarket as well. It's probably just a matter of getting the probe and installing it.
