sensor problems?

06 Outback w/ 22,00 miles. Temperature guage suddenly spiked to hot and code on "A" trip odometer=Er HC. Stopped, turned off engine and restarted fine. Temp guage back to normal and error code gone.

Please advise!!!!

Go to the dealer and don't let them brush you off. Something happened. Thermostat stuck or fan failed or something.

Get it documented at the dealer and retain a copy for your records. Intermittent stuff is difficult to find and it may never happen again but???????
