93 Mitsubishi Eclipse - Jumped it and now it won't idle

Maybe you guys can help me out here. I left the lights on in my Eclipse and drained the battery. I jumped it and it started after a few minutes of sitting hooked up to the other car. The real problem now is that it refuses to idle. I pull up to a stop sign and it dies right away. If I'm very careful and slowly take my foot of the gas I can get it to sit at an idle but it won't do it on it's own. I put it on the battery charger for a few hours but it still won't idle.

Any idea what I can do? I've got the charger running again but the charge seems fine now. The car starts on it own without the charger.

Thanks, Chris Roberts

Warm the engine up and then disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so. Hook the battery back up and see what happens. It's sort of like rebooting your computer. No guarantees but then again it won't cost you a nickel to try. Bob

I hope you meant that he disconnect the battery AFTER he turns off the car...I hope..?

I am not familliar with modern EFI cars, but in one car I had there was a fuse in the main fuse panel which when blown would result in the car engine dying on idle. It may not be that, but it doesn't take much time to check all fuses.

Sorry I wasn't clearer on that point, Tim is absolutely correct..... never let the engine run while the battery is disconnected. Thanks for pointing that oversight out. Bob
