Limited Slip Diffy VS Traction Control

Let's presume a generic RWD car with either basic traction control (Not the fancier 'handling' yaw control systems sometimes available) or Limited Slip diffy (LSD))

Is LSD redundant?

Is traction control usually combined w/ an 'open' axles? (cheaper?)

Nowadays w/ ABS and such is traction control cheaper than an LSD to manufacture/install?

Which do you prefer?

I have a '97 model car that has it and it seems rather 'intrusive' as it can also affect throttle response and perhaps a slight hesitation to engage compared to the consistant action of LSD.

Depends on what you want. For maximum performance and driver control, a LSD is better by far. For daily driving situations on a vehicle that already has 4-channel ABS, traction control is probably cheaper (mostly a software change) and doesn't wear out over time like LSDs are known for doing. There's always been a slight efficiency penalty with an LSD that isn't there with electronic TC as well (some engine power gets converted to heat ANY time the rear wheels aren't turning exactly the same speed). And finally, there are situations (eg. cornering on wet or icy roads) where an LSD can actually be more of a handful to drive than an open differential.
