Just to let all know my feelings about the G6 I have one and enjoy it very much. The ride is comfortable and I like the styling. I have the GT model with the sunroof. So far I have not had any problems with leaks but it is only a few months old. Only problem I see so far is with the GT model it has wide tires and a very peppy engine so winter driving will be an adventure in snow storms Hopefully I do not have to drive it often during those conditions. I do have a question if any pontiac mechanics can answer it for me. The traction control button to turn off TC helps when stuck in snow but is there a problem I may cause to the system with leaving the TC off in slippery conditions like a snow storm? I am mainly concerned with highway driving.

I have had to take TC off on several occasions in order to get around town. My concern is if I take TC off while on the highway I may burn out my transmission I was told at the dealer that I may need to take TC off if stuck in snow
Not sure why turning off the traction control enables you to get around town better in slippery conditions, please explain.
Do you have the basic "ETS" or full traction control?
Turning it off prevents the computer from reducing power to the wheels, either by fuel/timing adjustments to the engine itself, or upshifting the transmission. My experince is with an ETS equiped car which rarely experiences traction control activation (dash light comes on "Low Traction") at highway speeds, only "around town", therefore I can't see any damage to the transmission occuring at highway speeds. The transmission will just function normally. With it off, and driving around town, the wheels will spin and you will get stuck from my experience.

No I have Traction Control. There is a button on the dash below the radio next to the 12 volt power point. If I leave it on in slippery conditions I can hear a rapid clicking sound when road conditions make the tire spin. When I push the TC to the off position the sound goes away and I am able to move better in the same conditions.
The dealer specifically mentioned that control switch and one possible reason for using it.
