need help identifying a tranny in an '82 Chevy G10

1982 Chevy G10, inline 6 cylinder 250cc engine. The girl at the junkyard is asking me 3 or 4 different question, none of which I know the answer to (but yes I am going to install it...I'm not as dumb as I look. If I can, all by my lonesomes, get at and change the water pump and timing belt in my '90 Le Baron...I can do anything!):

1 or 2 wire lockup?

multi-fit case or no multi-fit case

something something on the jk?

Halp...

You could have 4 different transmissions. Look at the oil pan and then go to Auto zone site or a parts place for oil pan gasket ID. A chev bolt pattern or multi-fit case will work. Measure tail shaft housing and ID transmission oil pan.

actually I think it's 1, 2, or 3 wire lockup. And what you're telling me really isn't clear.

When I had to change the tranny on my 86 GMC, I phoned up the 800 number in the yellow pages for GM and asked them. They told me what the VIN said it had originally so I went to the wrecker and got the right one. At the same time they registered me as the owner and very quickly sent out the recall notices in the mail on the vehicle so I could go get the free repairs. It had serious lower ball joint and A frame issues...

I did the same for my 88 Cherokee and got in on an O2 sensor recall. You also can get the VIN build sheet from the DC website for Jeeps too, I don't know if GM also offers that.

No It can have 4 different size of transmissions.:grinyes:

200-C or 350-C or 400 or 700-R4 Id the oil pan/gasket/shape first. Your parts places will have pictures of different pans. Good luck

G10 van in 82.

Probably a 1 wire lockup (to check go under the van and look at the connector at the side of the trans)

What does the shift indicator have on it? If it had overdrive it is a 700R4 If not it is likely a TH 350

Case would be a non multi fit due to the room around the trans.

You also need to know the length of the tail housing.

What is wrong with the trans that is in it?
