Like between the cam shaft and the valve lifters/valves? They are known as shims. Not sure that this can be done without a special tool. After 100k miles mine never needed to be adjusted. Dealer checked at 80k when I had the timing belt changed.
The rear shoes (drum brakes?) are self adjusting -- when you pull up the hand brake it adjusts. Suspect rear discs (if equipt) are same. No special tools required to change - but if you don't know what you're doing don't start learning on the brake system!
Get a $12 Hayes or Chiltons book --- or check one out at the library.
No "tappets" in this design of valve gear. Tappets are the adjustable end of a rocker arm. Your Camry 4 cylinder uses bucket followers with a selective shim interposed between the bucket follower and the cam shaft. You do need feeler gauges, a metric micrometer, and two special tools (bucket hold-down tool and bucket wedge tool). You might use your feeler gauges to measure the "valve lash" to see if adjustment is required at this time and if necessary, have a qualified and equipped mechanic perform the work.
