bug deflector, or stone guards...

On a 2004 Tacoma, I am just curious how have others mounted these? There is a rubber gasket seal between the hood and the grille. Under the rubber seal or over it? Mine didnt come with directions, came from Toyota dealership but it was a gift.

Anybody got one facotry "dealer" mounted to check how they did it?

Thanks for any help!

Every one I've had mounted to the underside of the hood with clips.

remove 6 plastic clips that hold the hood weatherstripping on, 2 on the right, 2 on the left, 2 in the middle - see which ones by holding up the hood protector to the weather stripping.

Put in male plastic thingies in the old 6 plastic clip holes

Put deflector between the weather stripping and the hood

Put in new screws.

Watch out tho, on my 03 tacoma the official toyota accessory hood protector didn't fit, it mounted alright but I had to slam the shit out of my hood to get it to shut and then the hood release was about 10x as hard to open. This is fubar. I sold it to someone with a 04 double cab and it fit just fine, didn't have to slam the hood or anything. Place a towel over the front of the engine compartment when you start removing the clips in case you drop one, and you probably will drop one.
