After Market Brake Lights avail for Volvo?

I am in need of the brake light for the high mounted light that is in the middle of the window of a 1987 240 DL Volvo wagon.

The Volvo Part # that is in the Volvo Manual says it is: Volvo P/N 968113, 20 W, Socket Ba9s.

Does anyone know if this light is available from an after market light manufacturer such as Sylvania, GE, etc.? If so, how do I learn the manufacturer's part #.

Do you mean the bulb or the whole assembly? The assembly is made by Hella, but is probably a custom part done for Volvo so knowing the manufacture isn't really of much use there. The bulb is a fairly standard part, it's a

12v 20W halogen bulb with a bayonet base, after you install it, wipe down the bulb surface with rubbing alcohol to remove any finger oils, halogen bulbs run very hot and oils can cause hot spots and crack the quartz bulb.

Hi James: I meant the bulb. Do you know if it is available from sources other than Volvo--name of manuafacturer, part #, etc.? Best, Aaron

Here in the UK we use a standard 21 watt tungsten bulb for that. That halogen part must be pretty bright. I've always wondered if you could put an led type bulb in there to get that "lights up a nanosecond before the light cluster bulbs come on" effect. Just to annoy the ricers, you know.

I can tell you that bulb is Osram #64115. However it's still going to be expensive. If you can find the part from a later car that holds the bulb, you can switch to using a standard type 1156.

Thank's to all of the good people who replied to my inquiry. There was complete confusion on my part caused by the inaccuracy in the Volvo's Owners Manual. I had picked up the 1987 model year car from the Volvo factory in Sweden in fall of 1986. Instead of giving me the

1987 owners manual, they gave me the 1986 manual. The part # stated in the 1986 manual apparently was a halogen bulb that has a small bayonet bulb base. The socket on the car itself, however, does not accomodate the small halogen bulb that was stated in the manual, but apparently, the larger base tungsten bulb that is available virtually everywhere.

My problem was that I was relying on the manual.
