Does any one know the differences in the B23ET and B230FT engines for 1995 model year? I thought the car I am looking at, with turbo had the 230FT engine, but it has the 23ET engine instead. I thought the engine had single overhead cam, but does it have dual cams? Is the 23 and 230 block the same? The Chilton manual for Volvos I looked at does not have the 23ET engine listed. Thx in advance.
The B23 was replaced by the B230 in 1985.
On the B230: The main and rod bearings are smaller. The rods are longer and lighter The crank has 8 counter weights instead of 4.
The water pumps are also different, but similar
You can swap the cylinder heads, but the B23 has no provision for the rear mount distributor as used on the 700 series.
If it's a '95 and it has a B23ET then it's not the original engine, the 23E is of a stronger design but has slightly more internal friction so fuel economy won't be quite as good. They're both single overhead cams, the heads are interchangeable.
If it's a 95, than that's not necesarily true (re B23 v B230 strength)... especially given the oil squirter pistons that were never found on a B21/B23 block.
