2002 V6 Passat with Starting Problems

My 2002 V6 Passat (12.5K miles) has begun having trouble starting -- something that never happened before, and this despite the fact that the car underwent its 10K checkup at a reputable VW dealer about six weeks ago..

Beginning several weeks back, the Passat sometimes took a second turn-on of the ignition to fully start. Then three turn-ons sometimes became necessary. This evening, a warm muggy day, it took four attempts to get it started.

Are there suggestions as to what the problem might be? Should I make a dealer appointment ASAP, or try to fix the problem myself, realizing that I am relatively unskilled in car work?

Might have a ECT-electronic coolant temperature going bad.
