96 jetta cold start problem?

I have canadian 96 jetta 2.0 with 264k km. Last winter it decided it want to start in the morning below -15 degC or so. It's ran fine all summer & I'm expecting the same problem to recur this winter. Any thoughts or similar experiences? I've checked the MAF, TPS, air & h20 temp sensors, & cleaned the IAC valve. I changed the ignition wires etc last winter all to no avail. I'm now thinking fuel delivery, either injectors or regulator? Also, since I bought it at 100k the cam lifters rattle like hell until warmed up even on a summer morning. Any suggestions before I start throwing more money at this?

Could be the weight of oil your using. What weight do you use?

I ran synthetic 5-30 and 5-40 in my old Fox with 150,000 miles and it started fine at 0F but the 50 might just be a little too thick for the sub

0's. When you say hard to start, does it crank slow, or crank OK and just doesn't fire. Do you hold the clutch in if it's at stick? If it was me and I lived in the great north I would make sure the cap, rotor, wires are new along with the coil. And then gap the plugs at .025" But in reality... how would you start if you sleep outside all night in the sub 0's? Synthetic is the way to go as it flows a lot better than dino oils when cold.

The car turns over at normal rate but just will not fire.
