bad thermo...smalled like varnish too

97 passat thermo quit...smelled varnish too so I thought they were related as cold weather had made vr6 to miss fire...kept smelling varnish.....ya know what it was....it was the touch up paint in the door pocket...it had frozen and burst in the sub zero maine weather no bid problem....it was on the rubber liner to the door pocket
