Timing belt replaced - now I have slow idle

And the damn thing stalls at every red light When driving at speed, it runs fine- and there's no funny noises or rough running

This is a '98 Cabrio, manual 2.0L I'm pretty sure I got the belt on right - the cam mark lined up, #1 piston was at TDC, distributer rotor lined up with the mark.

I'm pretty sure I got everything reconnected OK, but ...

After I got it all together, I cleaned up battery terminals, so power was disconnected for about 30 minutes - could this be a factor?

I've tried messing with ignition timing, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

I had similar symptoms last year for no apparent reason - and hte problem just went away by itself.

What's going on here, and can I do anything about it?

OK , I did this, AND I had to redo belt timing - it was off by one tooth - now it's right.

But the car runs like total shit - no power, idles erratically, stalls at EVERY red light.

I have checked six times for open vacuum ports - can't find anything wrong. BUT - I don't really know for sure aht the vacuum lie arrangement is supposed to be, as NEITHER of the books I have shows any of that stuff. Is there an online resource that will show vacuum hoses?

I've done the computer reset thing twice - no change in performance.

What the hell do I do now?

Spend more money to have it done right?

Thanks for the sage advice - this is why I come to these newsgroups....

You are welcome. Sometimes you have to have two people work on a timing belt because only one can get distracted and mess things up.
