VagCOM problem - ODB K and L Line spec

Hi

I have downloaded the trial version of Vag-Com

diagnostics software for my'95 VW Golf III

I have constructed the interface from this link:

But I cannot get it working. I think there might be a problem with the circuit values. Before I do any serious scope measurements, are there any of you guys that know the spec for the ODBII interface? I'm specifically thinking of the function of the K and L line on the interface to the car?

Thanks

Klaus

I don't think your '95 is obd compatible. Try it on a later model.

My '95 has an OBD II connector, but it does not do the lamp flashing after pin-shorting that the Bentley book describes. Any insight on '95 OBD?

Yes it is. OBD-I.

It's OBD-I which does not have as many sensor as OBD-II but it will work and had OBD-I codes.

When I short pins 4 to 15 for 2.5 seconds per the Bentley book, I don't get the flashing. The book, on page 24A-6, says the MIL should flash. I was assuming that the MIL light was the Check Engine light. No flashing of OBD 1 codes. No flashing period.

The book says the change in connectors happened with 1994 and up. Yet the dealer computer reads the data fine it would seem.

That's what I mean. OBD I will work, not the II functions.....

I just wanted to second Tom's statement:

The same thing (non-functioning MIL light) happens to me.

My car is a 1995 Passat GLX VR6, so it has OBD 1 diagnostics. I have verified this fact by viewing the label under the hood.

I have had the codes read by both VW dealers and independant shops and I have only recently tried to read via the blink codes using the pin 4 to pin 15 jumper. The Check Engine light is on when I do this because the ignition is on but the engine is not running. I think the light is supposed to go out when the jumper is connected and then start the blink sequence.

I have read elsewhere that there may have been a mid-model year change in 1995 but my car was manufactured early in the model year (December

1994, If my memory is correct). The other information stated that early 1995 the blink code worked and later it did not. I do not know if this is correct because I have not found a second source to verify this.

So just to sum up: no-one knows the spec of those K/L signals?

In that case - does anyone know where the spec. can be found? Thanks

look here and see if this is what you want to know.

How many terminals are actually active on your vehicle? My 91 Passat only has

4 (2x2 connector). And wouldn't the K/L lines give different readings and not have a consistent output? As you see I don't know!

I see mine also says "OBD 1 CERTIFIED" on the label.

My build date is 06/95.
