What's the best lubricant for seat slides ?

The front seats in my Jetta are getting so difficult to move back and forth, I almost want to go buy an electric winch. ;) Taking a closer look, the plastic guides are intact but what little of the original grease is left is so dried out it's probably more of a hindrance than a help.

What's the best lubricant - Axle grease ? Vaseline ? WD40? Dry Teflon ? or what ?

I would clean the slides with a mild solvent like WD-40 to clean off all the old lubricant; I've used synthetic wheel bearing grease on them in the past and it seems to last a good long time, albeit it's a little messy. It's probably easiest to remove the seats to do this; unless you have power and/or heated seats, there's only one plug to unplug (for the seatbelt)
