wipers stopped moving

a couple days ago I went and started my 1995 jetta 2.0 after it snowed, I turned on my wipers and they went up, and stopped, so I brushed the snow off the winshield and the wipers were still stuck in the same spot, so I put them on high, and then pulled on the driver side wiper, when I Pulled it the passenger side moved too, but they still didn't work, so then I realized I probably blew a fuze, so I found I did and I replaced it, and then turned on the wipers, they worked but would only stop in the middle of the window when I shut them off, so then I pushed them down to where they are suposed to stop at and then they stopped working, so I then realized I must have did something stupid. Now when I turn them on I hear the wiper motor but no movement, is their any way I can fix this.

The nuts that hold them must be off. Maybe even the posts stripped...

well i guess you've now found why you shouldn't force things.

you might be Ok though. sounds like they still work but are just misaligned and possibly disconnected from the linkage and/or loose.

I would remove the wiper arms and cycle the wipers a few times w/o the arms on them and then shut them off. Reinstall wiper arms in the correct parked position (as the motor would be in the parked position now).

I don't claim to be a snow expert when I live (SoCal) but I would say that if you expect snow overnight, pull your wipers away from the window and leave them up. Or before you get in the car, lift each wiper up briefly to make sure it's not frozen to the window.

I had that happen in the middle of a blizzard. (S'not nice being 40 miles from civilization in a white-out blizzard with no wipers.)

You more than likely just broke something in the linkage. There's a piece in there that functions like a physical fuse, and with a bit of work under the cowl can be easily repaired.

Good luck hunting it down (I handed it to the dealer as it was under warranty)
