Open "letter" to GM

Dear GM,

Was shopping for mid-size SUV and tried the V6 STX. Pretty nice vehicle, but interior needs help. Please send your interior guys over to Infiniti, Audi, Lexus, or Acura for some good ideas on how it should be none. That's not the deal killer, though. Deal killer was the awful EPA estimates, barely better than the (over-priced) V8.

Please put a good diesel (like the one Merc puts in the E-class - 27 mpg city and 37 mpg highway and it's as quick as the gas six E-Class - or the one BMW puts in their 5-series in Europe). Don't screw around with silly ideas like gas hybrids with their expensive battery packs that need replacing every few years. And quit wasting money on hydrogen for a decade or two. It's money down a rat hole at this point.

You spent a ton of money (five billion) on the Fiat deal and that was about diesel technology they supposedly had. You also are partnered with Isuzu who know diesels. Put that to work. You need to do this!

I really do want to buy an STX, but not with the lousy EPA numbers it has.

Cadillac does not currently produce an STX

A kind reader has pointed out to me that I meant the SRX, not STX. This new naming system they came up with just does not register with me.

I stand corrected..

Meant SRX, not STX.

What the heck are these new letter jumble names about anyway? What was wrong with names that actually meant something? Had a history to them, even.

Sigh.
