1999 Isuzu Rodeo Fuel Guage Issues

Greetings,

I have a late model 1998 (technically a 1999) Isuzu Rodeo V6 2WD. The fuel gauge stays at Empty and the low fuel light flashes on and off? I have done the following: Added fuel Checked all fuses

I believe it is an electrical issue or a stuck float in the fuel tank, however, I would like to narrow my search a bit. Any suggestions or help with this matter will greatly be appreciated.

TIA

Brad

Derek,

My '99 Rodeo suffered from the same symptoms you described.

The fuel guage sending unit is located inside the fuel tank and consists of a simple potentiometer connected to a float arm. After about 50k miles the potentiometer wears and requires replacement. The part costs between $50 and $75 at the dealer and is fairly simple to replace. However, you must remove the fuel tank to get to the assembly. I performed this job myself on my '99 Rodeo and it took me about 3 hours. I have no idea how much the dealer will charge you for the labor.

After I installed the new potentiometer, my fuel gage produced readings that were too high. I had the dealer calibrate the system and they charged me $70.

Just you make sure if you go to the dealer, don't go with a full tank
