Valve lifter, wrangler 4 cyc

Got a noisy lifter in my son's '97 wrangler, 4 cyclinder. I know I can replace the lifter through the cylinder head. Any advice on how to do this? I know i will need a hydraulic tappet remover tool, and should probably replace the pushrod and rocker arm. I also know that it is definitely valve train noise. Any hints? thanks cal

My hint is to turn up the radio.

The sole purpose of the lifter is to take out the valve lash. But when the lifter collapses, the engine does not really care and it can survive like that for 10s of thousands of miles.

If he is using a fram oil filter, change that first. They have bad valves in them which cause dry starts and lots of lifter noise.

Just a thought, happened to mine.

Turn up the radio and put the top down.
