How good is the 1.8 Liter in an Eclipse?

We've owned a number of 1990 to 1992 Eclipses and Talons with the 2.0 liter DOHC motor, and had pretty good luck. I'm looking at one with a 1.8 liter engine.

Is the 1.8 liter as reliable? How is it for mileage. I assume that it doesn't have the power that the 2.0 liter does.

Quite a bit less power hence its rather a slug esspecially with an automatic. Rear springs are softer too, so you'll notice rather a more sloppy ride in corners.

The 1.8 IS a bit slow, but it's quite reliable. Properly tuned, with a

5-speed and factory alloy rims, I get 35 mpg (highway) in my '94. FYI - I only got 31 before I changed the rims, reducing my total wheel mass by 30 lbs. over the steels & hubcaps! I could even feel the difference in the steering effort.

Also, I have a friend with over 200K > the 1.8 is a slug.
