200SX

What sort of money should you pay for one of these? I ask because I was admiring one outside my mates house the other day, although it had had a bit of damage to the front, nothing major. Turns out the insurance compnay wrote it off. The guy got some new bits off ebay and replaced it all, and is gonna get it repsrayed. My mate was talking to him about me and said he I could take it away for a grand. Hopefully will get some more info on it tmrw, but i think its around about a k reg. What do ya reckon?

Rusty sheds.

You want an S14, not an S13.

Well it looked pretty sound to me

But if its cheap, quick, semi reliable with plenty of MoT then i'm not bothered

Tailgate aside, they're pretty good overall for their age, tbh.

There is a join on the front strut tops that will show signs of decay when the rest of it is starting to go, but you normally only need to sort that, and a few scabs on the sills, MOT fail wise.

I prefer the look of the S14a, but the S13 is meant to be more of a drivers car, albeit one with a tendency to expire rather expensively, far more often.

S13 engine isn't to strong compared to the S14 i heard, i ALMOST went for an S14a before the MR2 turbo but the MR2 is quicker so that made my choice in the end hehe

Well... you can't knock the boy for his honesty, can you!

Hmmmm, think I'll probably leave it then. Last thing I want i a huge repair bill!

It's only a grand ! Even if it only runs for two years before popping, you've got some very cheap motoring.

There's no repair bills to be paid - when it pops, just throw it away.

The S14a cars are a better bet - 1997 R (facelift) onwards. Only consider the Touring spec - the pov models don't get leather.

If it's still in otherwise good nick, it'll still fetch a fair bit, even with a blown lump... plenty out there that have been overenthusiastically drifted into oblivion, but still mechanically, and they're pretty addictive as cars go.

They're not that bad... just remember they produce a lot more power, relatively cheaply and most people tend to take advantage of this... and that, invariably, is what causes them to go pop.

More resilient when tuned, than a comparable R5 GTT or anything with a CVH lump, and they're not that dear to rebuild either, really.

in news: snipped-for-privacy@individual.net, "Carl Gibbs" slurred :

I looked at these myself, and barring some rust on tailgates, the main problem seemed to be turbos often needing replacing at ~80k miles. In Autotrader ads you see a lot with 'just had new turbo'. I don't know if this just happens to the tweeked ones.

Nope... it's as likely on both... if you don't change the turbo oil feed pipe.

Change that, and they're much more resilient.

yeah that's it :)

Bought 2nd one for £150, knocking b/e's - bloke said it was cam rattle. Parted out as a pile of s/h bits one piece at a time it's worth a lot more ~£400+.

Lets see rebuild blown T25 (250bhp limit at 16psi) or fit a ball bearing T28 (330+bhp at 16psi)? What you gonna do? When stuff expires it's telling you to upgrade it.

Big ends go too. Gearboxes tend to need new bearings if given some pig in lower gears. Later S14 has reduced boost in 1st and 2nd to prevent this - Lotus did this on the V8 too. Holy seals just in front of rear wheels. Rear subframe bushes.

Unlike more expensive cars which would be parked on the tip for any of these faults, all can be repaired at reasonable cost if you make contact with the specialists on

If you abuse it daily like it asks to be abused then it will cost. But it's far less costly than using other cars in the same way.

Parkers guide - anonymous (OK more towards the S14). Quite rare they only imported 5772 to the UK.

Parkers guide - dangerous in the wrong hands. Tell me where it is and I 'll save you from it (or should that be save it from you?). I think about 20,000 imported. Pre-facelift 89-early91, facelift mid

91 to 94. They sold about twice as many pre-facelift to facelift models. In part due to Nissan GB taking over the import in mid/late 91, they got rid of the dealers that sold imported SX's and Z's and kept the ones that sold lots of UK made Bluebirds.
